This West African snack ‘Chin Chin’ will remind you of your favorite snack from back home

Often you eat something that reminds you of the snacks that you used to eat in your childhood or your home country, and you can’t help but think how similar they taste, even though they come from a country’s cuisine that is so far away from your own. Today, we’ve brought you “Chin Chin”, a West African snack from our brand All African Delights that is famous for its crunchiness and sweet flavor. This African food is sure to remind you of your home snacks and is great for its versatility and as an alternative to all the snacks that taste alike.

The story behind us and our Chin Chin

Our story started when Gaelle Fodjo moved to Canada from Cameroon. Chin Chin is a regular snacking option in West African countries like Nigeria and Cameroon. She couldn’t find this authentic African cuisine in Canada, and even the most regular African snacks were not found in any grocery store. That’s when she decided to start her own brand called ‘All African Delights’, which serves African immigrants in Canada who were missing African cuisine.

Snacks that taste similar to Chin Chin

On our journey to make authentic African Chin Chin available in Canada, we were committed to serving not just African communities but also the natives and different communities set up inside Canada. Our customers told us that our Chin Chin tastes very similar to the food items from their home country. That’s when we realized our Chin Chin can be used as an alternative for your favorite snack too. Some of the food items that it resembles in taste are Kulkul from Goan cuisine, Khapse from Tibetian cuisine, Pasta Fritta from Italian cuisine, Uraro Cookies (Filipino Arrowroot Cookies) from the Philippines, Mandazi from Kenya, Oliebollen from the Netherlands, and lastly, Shakarpara from India. We felt a sense of belongingness hearing this from our customers, as they are living so far from their actual homes, and our Chin Chin reminded them of their home and food.

How do you eat Chin Chin?

Chin Chin’s beauty lies in its versatility. You can eat Chin Chin however you like; there is no one way to eat it. You can pair them with different items to satisfy your cravings or just eat them as a crunchy go-to snack, depending on how you like them. However, if you are new to West African cuisine and want some help with pairing it with the food you like, you’re at the right place.

The different ways in which you can enjoy our Chin Chin are:

  1. Munch it on its own. This is the classic way to experience the delightful combination of sweetness and crunchiness of the Chin Chin
  2. Dip it in your beverages: Dunk your Chin Chins in a cup of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate to make your breakfasts extra sweet.
  3. Top up your ice creams: You can use Chin Chin as a topping on your ice creams as well. You can use Chin Chin sticks to have your ice cream, or crush and sprinkle them on top of ice cream for a little crunchiness.
  4. Pair it with Yogurt: For a more wholesome snack, Chin Chin adds a yummy textural contrast to creamy yogurt.
